Delayed Harvest rainbow

Delayed Harvest rainbow

As the North Toe flows into Spruce Pine, NC it becomes designated Delayed Harvest trout water. The delayed harvest on the North Toe is some of the best in the state! This is a great choice for the new up and coming angler. Starting in October, the state stocks this section of river multiple times until June. During that time the river is strictly catch and release and single hook artificial lure restrictions. This means it fishes best during the cold months, when most of the other public water tends to be hit or miss. This fishes like your typical delayed harvest stream, double nymph rigs will be the go to setup.

Toe River/Nolichucky

Toe River Smallie

Toe River Smallie

Below the delayed harvest section on the North Toe the smallmouth bass fishery begins. The bass fishery really starts getting good when the first hot days of the year arrive and lasts until early fall. Smallmouth fishing on the fly will test your endurance. You are throwing large bass bugs, and when you hook up you have the fight of your life on the line. Because of the repetive casting and stripping of large flies and heavy rods, light spinning gear may also be used on these trips. We fish the Toe from the Headwaters all the way until it forms the Nolichucky. We offer both float and wade trips for smallmouth bass. Two anglers maximum per boat. Multiple boats available!
